Overclock.net News System: Out of Control

In recent times, the news sharing system located at Overclock.net, know by it's users as OCN, has become increasingly chaotic. So much so, that calling it "the news system" may be a bit of a misnomer, as the word 'system' implies some sort of organization or management. Many stories posted in the news are, in fact, not news but rather a rumor originating from an obscure source with no empirical facts to back it up.

Another disturbing aspect of the declining state of the news system is simply the quality of the news. Of those posts which do originate from trustworthy sources, the vast majority of them are of no particular significance.

The news system at OCN is in such a sorry state, that it no longer serves it's original purpose. The news system once offered one some entertainment and insight into the amazing world of technology. But now, instead of being a source of enjoyment, for many users, the system has become a source of frustration as relevant news becomes and ever narrowing slice of pie on the chart.

Simply by reading the guides put in place by the Overclock.net management as to what defines 'news', one can achieve an accurate view of just how far gone the news system is. To use the words of the OCN staff, "retailer sourcing" is expressly forbidden. When one scrolls through the news section, one can find stories such as [Iolo] System Mechanic 64-bit Released, or [Tiger Direct] Tiger Direct adds laptops to barebones section, obvious violations of this rule.

It would seem that news area for Overclock.net has become so overrun, and indeed flooded, with low quality stories and rule infractions, that the staff has simply abandoned any and all attempt to provide adequate moderation of the news forum.

It makes one wonder, "What if this corruption spreads to the rest of the forum?" Indeed not a pleasant thought, not a pleasant thought at all.
